St. Charles Health System, based in Bend, Oregon, was facing a growing problem: demand for gastroenterology care was outpacing supply across its service area. With limited specialist availability and long wait times, the system needed a way to expand access without adding infrastructure or burdening staff.

In April 2025, St. Charles partnered with WovenX Health to launch a fully integrated OnDemand GI service. The model connected patients to GI-trained APPs in under 30 minutes, kept care within the system, and required no IT lift or workflow disruption.

In the first six months, the outcomes included:

  1. 900+ new patients brought into the system
  2. Median wait time of 20 minutes
  3. 87 percent of patients required a GI workup
  4. Coverage extended across Bend, Redmond, Madras, and Prineville

Patients who previously would have returned to their PCP, gone to urgent care, or looked elsewhere for a specialist were instead seen quickly and moved into the appropriate care pathway.

“This partnership with WovenX allows us to close critical gaps in gastroenterology care, while reducing wait times, easing emergency room strain, and ensuring that care is coordinated, connected, and personalized,” said Jonnie Becker, Administrative Director, St. Charles Surgical Division.
